Not because I loved it. Beginning with the title, Upside Down: Thus the vicious cycle of messed up priorites! Galeano shares the personal story of a street kid who looks to drugs to rid himself of all the problems he faces in his daily life of poverty. Eduardo is a very intelligent writer from Uruguay who “LOVES” politics and was so very disgusted with the world when this was written.
The author himself has proclaimed his obsession as a writer saying, “I’m a writer obsessed with remembering, ecuardo remembering agleano past of America above all and above all that of Latin America, intimate galfano condemned to amnesia. Galeano at his usual: For example, failure is condemned while injustices are often overlooked as a mere fact of life.

I read a review in which this book was described as a rant, and I’d have to agree – an eloquent, feisty, brilliant rant. Lots of wood block prints galeamo little, dirty tidbits about the global economy and politicians. Jun 16, YGC rated it really liked it. Since he covers so much ground to support his thesis the examples are short, sometimes disconnected, and sometimes not as well documented as his other books but even if you disagree with his views it’s still a decent review of diverse historic events.
But I felt that the author could have taken a global view especially when the ideas he discusses are all common to all countries from ‘the South’.

The little “aside” boxes are alternatley hilarious and horrendous.
